Thank you for your interest in the Meteoritical Bulletin, a publication of the international Meteoritical Society.
If you have a meteorite and you would like to it submit to the Nomenclature Committee for approval, please follow the guidelines outlined below and use the templates provided.
All new meteorites must be submitted in table format.
Download the table template for meteorites from Northwest Africa 'NWA template 18 September 2007' (Excel template) or from any other area in the world 'Non-NWA template 28 Sept 2007' (Excel template). If you have difficulty downloading these templates contact the editor (Dr. Michael K. Weisberg) at meteorite@kbcc.cuny.edu for assistance.
Meteorite descriptions.
As in the past, written descriptions of new meteorites are encouraged. However, many descriptions will now only be published online, in the Meteoritical Bulletin Database. At the editors discretion, some descriptions will be selected for printing in the hardcopy version of the Meteoritical Bulletin.
Submission of a written description is mandatory for falls, new types of meteorites and meteorites with anomalous characteristics; it is optional for all other meteorites. In certain cases, the editor may request a written description for a meteorite.
Written descriptions are considered to be supplementary material. The primary submission to the Nomenclature Committee is always in table format, as described above. Therefore, please note that all new meteorites, including those with written descriptions, need to be submitted in table format.
To submit a written description, please use the description template 'March 2007 version' (Word template). All written descriptions are subject to editing prior to publication in the Meteoritical Bulletin or the Meteoritical Bulletin database.
Provisional names.
If you need to request provisional names for meteorites, please use the table templates, fill in any preliminary information you have and contact the Editor of the Meteoritical Bulletin for further instructions.
